Phillips 26PF5520D - This LCD is Great For Gaming Purposes Posted By : Scott James

Posted by admin on 28th September 2007

Getting a new television for the home is a major purchase nowadays. The idea of parting with what could be a couple of hundred notes does tend to concentrate the mind somewhat.

Given the way technology changes it is essential to try and make sure that your purchase is relatively future-proof.

The latest telecommunication system for broadcasting moving pictures and sound is known as Digital television (DTT) and as the name implies this relies upon the transmission and reception of digital signals as opposed to the more conventional analogue formats. With DTT, viewers are limited to whatever channels the antenna picks up. Signal quality will also vary.

For the purposes of this article we want to take a look at purchasing a new Flat Screen Television and in this case the television in question is the Phillips 26PF5520D.

The 26PF5520D is a 26in LCD TV and currently these TV’s can be found for 860 pounds sterling or 1730 US dollars. The screen resolution is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD Ready the answer is yes. The Phillips has 2 (1 RGB) scarts and the type and number of Multimedia interfaces the 26PF5520D uses is DVI and 1. The type of Tuner for this TV is Analogue and Digital and the Phillips is available from a wide variety of outlets.

All these points being taken into consideration, how would we view the Phillips 26PF5520D?

First up, we would look at the picture quality and our score here would be 8 out of 10, next we would look at the sound quality and our view of this would be 6 out of 10. Another useful aspect to review is the availability and number of relevant connections and our score here would be 8 out of 10. With regards to the overall level of features, our view would be 8 out of 10 and for ease of use and overall value for money we would give it, 6 out of 10 and 8 out of 10 respectively.

Finally our overall opinion would be that this LCD is great for gaming purposes and you would see fantastic perfromances from something like an X-Box and yes it is HD-Ready but probably not quite as good as some of the other products around at the moment.

With the wide range and variety of makes and models available for you to choose from it is unlikely that you will not find something to suite your taste or satisfy any budgetary constraints that you might have. You could be completely avant-garde and stay in the forefront of fashion and design or you could decide to take perhaps the safer option and go for one of the established makes and models available. No matter what rout you take we hope that after reading this article you should be more informed as to the correct choice with which to take.

With regards to the prices in this article we have tried in all cases to take an average across the industry from a number of well known web sites and so we ask you to bear this in mind and treat these prices as advisory only rather than absolutes.

PS3 Xbox 360 Or Wii Posted By : Steve Morris

Posted by admin on 30th August 2007

Do you own a Ps3, Xbox 360 or a WII, what made you buy your console? Was it the technical specifications or did someone tell you theirs was so fantastic that you just had to join in the fun.

Now I am going to be honest with you, I own a Playstation 3 and I love it. So please excuse me if I’m ever so slightly biased but I will do my best to be fair. I have friends with the Xbox 360 and the Wii and they equally like there consoles but we all buy for different reasons.

As I just said I love my PS3 I love the way it looks, the way it handles music and movies and the way I can have a picture of my dog as my wallpaper on the screen. I am not an addicted gamer type, who cannot go a moment without playing. The reason I opted for the PS3 was more for its media capabilities and the upgradeability of the hard drive. The PS3 seemed more for the mature Gamer, who may have a family and want a multifunctional machine. I also liked the fact that right out the box the PS3 supported mouse and keyboard, this to me indicates that in the future the PS3 may be able to run my all time favourite RTS games with game play like its supposed to be played with a mouse and keyboard

With regard to the games I think They are fantastic , I’m currently playing through Ghost recon 2 Advanced war fighter the graphics are great the sound superb; but not that different from my friends Xbox 360 version. There has been a lot of hype about which console is the best for games and seeing both the PS3 and the 360 side by side at this point in time there’s not a lot in the mix to discriminate between them.

The 360 has just had an update that allows Xbox uses to use the windows live messenger network to communicate with friends and family on PC, Xbox 360 and via windows mobile devices. This can only be a good thing for the Xbox 360 community with its ability to connect the console to Windows media edition to share your movie , music and picture files also brings the Xbox 360 into the media centre for the home domain. I do feel that this is a good console but there have been many reports of the red ring of death and that they do suffer greatly from overheating problems.

Up to now, we have not mentioned the Wii, now this is a completely new breed of games machine, not focused on great graphics but on superb game play instead. Having owned a Game cube in the past, which was designed to be just a games console and nothing more Nintendo lost out in the first gen race. Now we have a new runner in the race called the Wii and boy its storming a head in the sales race. This little gem came from nowhere to be the top seller out of the next gen consoles but what has made in so popular?
Interaction’s the key to the success of the Wii with its superb motion sensing capabilities , interactive game play and a control system that is a master piece of inspired thinking. The Wii is just Fun in a box and great for all members of the family from your toddler to your gran I defy anyone not to be impressed by the Wii

I had my reasons to buy the PS3, it matched what I wanted in a game console, cost wise it was the most expensive. If I wanted a console just for gaming, I would have bought a Xbox 360 because of the price. I did consider the Wii before I purchased the PS3 I liked the interactivity a lot and thought my children would love it too. All in all I’m feeling no buyers regret in buying the PS3 but I must admit I am very tempted to buy A Wii to go with my PS3 I think they would look great side by side. Now to convince the wife of the benefits of yet another games machine in the house.

Playstation 3, a step ahead of the rest? Posted By : Adilia Cordeiro

Posted by admin on 23rd August 2007

It’s the battle of the gaming hardware. It seems that the competition between Nintendo and their prime competitor Sony with its PlayStation series has been heating up for some time now.

Sony PlayStation 3 is the high - end, with all the bells and whistles between the two. It contains a top tier 60GB hard drive version, high-definition graphics, Blu-ray disc drive that delivers great image quality and a hard disk. Sony PlayStation comes with hefty $600 or more retail price.

No doubt even with that price range it will probably still beat out the competition. PlayStation 3 comes with both an Ethernet port and Bluetooth capabilities. PlayStation 3’s online play is completely free of charge. If you want to do a lot of movie watching with your PSE, the Sony PlayStation 3 Blue-ray DVD remote is a nice luxury to have.

As we can see Sony has built something with a definite eye on the future. Sony PlayStation 3 was designed to be more than just a video game console. It comes with a quiet operation; plays high definition Blue-ray movies in addition to standard DVDs; all games are high definition; built -in WI-FI; 60 GB hard drive; built - in memory card readers; Bluetooth support for wireless controllers and accessories; backwards-compatible with PS2 and PS1 titles; online play is completely free; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power supply.

Although Nintendo Wii has its own perks and benefits it is not quite as advanced as PS3. Nintendo Wii does have built in WI-Fi but not Ethernet. Like PS3 it has an SD card slot and can display photos, but its standard -def DVD drive can’t yet play movies. They are still working on that. What Nintendo does have that keeps it in the game is a unique gaming remote device called the Wiimote and an enormous library of game.

The PS3 enters the market with significantly more horsepower and better graphics, but their game options are, at this point fairly limited. PS3 opened with 20 games. Nintendo Wii came on the market with 62 games available. PS3 seems to be ahead of the game for now with its high-end bells - and whistles, but who knows what the future holds in the gaming industry.

X-box, does it have staying power? Posted By : Adilia Cordeiro

Posted by admin on 15th August 2007

X-box is Microsoft’s future-generation video game system that delivers the most powerful gaming experience ever. X-box empowers game artists by giving them the technology to fulfill their creative vision as never before by creating games that blur the lines between reality and fantasy. Microsoft Xbox is a sixth video game console of era was initially released on November 15, 2001 in North America, then released on February 22, 2002 in Japan, and on March 14, 2002 in Europe.

Looking for the ultimate gaming console? Your search stops here. X-box 360 is fully loaded. It is the unsurpassed gaming and entertainment experience for the best value. X-box 360 Core System delivers the same powerful gaming as Xbox 360 but starts with the basics just plug in the console and the controller and you are playing. You can then decide what else to add. It is expandable to the full Xbox 360 Pro console setup.

How does Xbox differ from Xbox 360? There are quite a few differences between the Xbox and its later model. The question depends on who is asking. Is this person someone who simply wants to be able to play a video game at home during their past time or someone who is into technology and is always out to get the latest model of gizmos? The design of the new Xbox 360 is supposed to be able to work better with HDTV’s. This is to keep up with the latest state -of - the- art gaming consoles out there.

Will Xbox be beat by another competitor? Maybe, PS3 which can be used to watch movies, play music, and surf the web. It has a dual Ethernet, built in wi-fi, Bluetooth, flash memory slots and blue ray. PS3 has hardware that is more powerful than that of Xbox 360 and will be able to produce real to life visuals. PS 3 games will be stored on Blu ray discs which store 54 gigs while game space in the Xbox 360 is just 9 gigs.

Even though Xbox may not be the big boy on the block anymore, we have yet to be see whether or not it will just fade away in the background of it‘s competitors.

Buying Playstation 3 Accessories - Some Thoughts Posted By : Tommy R Hurley

Posted by admin on 6th August 2007

The PS3 is some 40 times faster than the PS2 and serious gamers can take advantage of all that processing power by getting accessories that can potentially take the gaming experience to the next level.

SIXAXIS Controller

Probably the most important new accessory for the PS3 is the SIXAXIS controller. This wireless controller features intuitive real-time interactive play using motion-sensing technology. The player uses the controller as an extension of their body and the controller senses all movements for high precision play. The SIXAXIS controller utilises Bluetooth technology for wireless game play. It is easy to set up and is compatible with today’s monitors and television sets. The controller can be used as either wireless or wired if desired.

PS3 Bluetooth Headset

The new Bluetooth headset for Playstation 3 is designed to keep your hands free and fits comfortably in your ear. The headset includes a microphone that is noise-reducing and echo-eliminating for a clear, crisp communication. The headset can also be used with other Bluetooth enabled devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and computers making it a useful tool for use with all your technology. The range extends to some 30 meters.

PS3 Blu-Ray Disc Remote Control

The Playstation 3 is designed to act not just as a gaming device but as an entertainment centre. The PS3 plays DVDs, videos and other media. The Blu-Ray Disc Remote Control also utilises Bluetooth technology and allows remote control of media playback via the PS3.

HDMI Cable

Now you can enjoy games on a High Definition television or monitor if you are lucky enough to own one. The HDMI Cable is designed to transfer digital-only signals from source to a display. Along with this, digital audio is also transmitted over the HDMI cable making it a good alternative to DVI.

Silicone Case for PS3 Controller

This is designed to fit snugly over your controller. The case gives protection while allowing full access to all the buttons and switches. It is made to repel dirt and keep dust out of the controller, much like a second skin. Made of durable silicone it helps keep the controller from breaking if it is dropped and more importantly provides a slip-free grip that makes gaming easier.

Conclusion

The Playstation 3 is arguably the ultimate in the current crop of gaming systems. No doubt the next 12 months will see a plethora of new PS3 accessories from Sony and from third party providers. There are already a significant number of accessories which, depending upon the format of your current games, your TV or monitor’s resolution and of course upon the type of games you prefer, should prove useful. Sony’s adoption of Bluetooth technology in particular seems set to render some of these accessories useful in contexts other than solely for the PS3.
