What are Ipods?

Posted by admin on 27th April 2008

Ipods are a type of portable media player or method of listening to music that are made by the company Apple Inc. and first burst onto the electronic market on October 23, 2001. Ipods quickly became popular with the listening public because they are sleek, slim, easy to carry and can hold many songs. These portable media players must be plugged into a computer by way of a USB drive and from there songs are downloaded onto the interface. As of the date January 2008, there have been over 141 million Ipods sold throughout the globe. The older model Ipods could play music and that is about all. The newer more sophisticated models can be used for a variety of learning lessons on language, math, art, literature, architecture and music.

The line up of Ipod products to date includes the Ipod classic, the video-capable Ipod nano, the touchscreen Ipod touch and the screen less Ipod shuffle. Math modeling is possible on the newer versions of Ipods and the Apple company is looking at ways to help those who are hearing impaired to enjoy this form of technology to the best of their ability. Some of the former products of the Ipod include the compact Ipod mini and the spin-off from that, the Ipod photo. The Ipod photo has since merged into the classic Ipod design.

Media is not stored the same way in all of the Ipod products. For example the classic versions of the Ipod store the information for the player on an internal hard drive while the Ipods that are smaller in size make use of flash memory. With the exception of the Ipod touch, these digital players for songs can also be used as a method of storing external data. The amount of storage each Ipod contain varies depending on which model you are talking about.

The software that is required to transfer music to the Ipod is Apple’s iTunes. The iTunes store is home to a huge library of music that can be found by way of the Internet. This music is able to be played, burned as well as ripped from a compact disc. But Ipods do so much more than that. It is possible to transfer data such as photos, calendars, videos and games to the Ipods, depending on which models they are. Some are more capable of certain things than are others.

A Personal Review Of The Riccar Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Posted by admin on 27th April 2008

I just bought an upright Riccar vacuum cleaner - the Radiance - and it’s the best vacuum cleaner I’ve ever had. It was an expensive purchase but I think it’s worth every penny and I can’t fault it. However, I recently met someone who bought a Riccar upright vacuum a few years back and they told me about the problems they had after using it on damp carpet. I had an Electrolux vacuum cleaner and I loved it. It faithfully cleaned my floors and carpets for over 8 years before dying of old age. At first I thought I’d buy another Electrolux - I think it was the Oxygen - anyhow, I started reading some vacuum cleaner reviews online and found myself getting very confused. Some reviews of the Electrolux vacuum cleaner were complementary while others derided it. I then started looking at other brands, which was a bad idea, as I just got even more confused. Eventually, I went to our local vacuum retailer and I’m really glad I did. It was in the store that I first came across the Riccar vacuum cleaner. I’d never heard of it before but the man in the store told me that Riccar don’t advertise that much and its vacuums are more or less sold by word of mouth. Anyhow, he demonstrated the Riccar Radiance upright and I was amazed at how powerful it was. I was also able to try out the Electrolux vacuum cleaner. While it was good, I really preferred the cleaning power and ease of use of the Riccar. Furthermore, the salesman told me that Riccar vacuum cleaners are built to last. He showed me the metal components of the vacuum and I was able to compare it to the Electrolux. I was amazed at how much metal is used in the making of the vacuum (and how little is used in other brands). The vacuum comes with a reinforced metal pedal, a stainless steel bottom plate, metal wand and even a polished metal cord hook! Other features that impressed me were the indicator lights telling you when the bag is full, when to change the filter and when the brushroll gets jammed. It’s also comes with cute LED headlights. As you’d expect the Radiance comes with a HEPA filter, however, the filtering is further improved because the filter is sealed. But without doubt the most impressive thing about the Radiance is its motors, 2 to be precise. They work synchronously and it’s called the Tandem Air System. One is a high-velocity motor placed right above the head so you great tremendous suction. The other is placed above the other and it provides the suction for the onboard tools and helps with the high efficiency filtration system. I’ve now been using the vacuum for several weeks and it’s been great. I have both hardwood and carpeted floors. With my old Electrolux vacuum cleaner I would have to manually adjust the brushroll but the Riccar vacuum is self-adjusting, which makes cleaning my floors a lot easier. The onboard tools are easy to use and snap on and off easily. All in all, I’m delighted with it and find it very hard to find fault with it. However, recently I was playing tennis with an acquaintance and afterwards we started talking about vacuums cleaners - as you do - and when I told them I bought and loved my Riccar they told me they had bought one several years ago and it was a mistake and ended up being a pile of expensive junk. Apparently, they used it on carpets that had just been washed and were still damp. Afterwards they left it on the carpet. Anyhow, a day or two later the axel between the rear wheels rusted and pretty soon they couldn’t push it along. They tried to complain and get their money back but the company told them they had ‘abused’ the vacuum and told them the warranty was void. I’ve made a note never to go anywhere near water with mine. I’m really happy with my Riccar vacuum cleaner and think the build quality, materials and suction power make it one of the best vacuum cleaners you can buy, even if it is also one of the most expensive. Follow the links for the Riccar vacuum cleaner and decide for yourself if it’s the best vacuum cleaner for you or if an Oreck, Hoover or Electrolux vacuum cleaner would be better. Never Buy A Canon PowerShot SD800IS Digital Elph Camera

Posted by admin on 13th February 2008

What would you do with a camera that failed to live up to your expectations? Try returning it? Sell it on Ebay? Drop if off the Golden Gate Bridge? How about, get the facts you need to make the right buying decision in the first place. Sounds good to me. The Canon PowerShot SD800IS Digital Elph is one of the best selling point and shoot cameras available. But, is it the right camera for you? I’m going to skip all the strong selling features of the SD8000IS Elph, and go straight to what I think are the problems . . . and let you decide.

Firstly, lets start with face recognition focusing. The SD800IS as well as a number of Canons are supposed to recognize peoples faces, and focus on the faces for the best picture. It’s a great idea in theory, but not so good in practice with this PowerShot. When using the face recognition mode, items around, behind, and near the faces in the photographs are in focus, but quite often the face is not. Face recognition is an idea whose time has come, but Canon needs to do a little more work to get it right.

Chromatic aberration has been a problem in a number of the Canon point and shoots, including the predecessor to the SD800IS, the SD700. Canon obviously doesn’t see it as a problem, since it’s still visible in the SD800IS. Sometimes called “color fringing”, chromatic aberration is a cameras inability to focus two or more different colors on the same focal plane. Mostly, it shows up on wide angle photographs, and can look like a fringe of color around an object that shouldn’t be there.

Image noise with this PowerShot is a problem with any photos taken at ISO 400 or higher. If you really want to push it, you could take pictures at ISO 800, as long as you don’t plan on developing any pictures greater than 4×6 or 5×7. Using after the fact software to reduce image noise is a possibility, if you don’t mind the loss of crispness in your images due to the software’s softening algorithms.

It’s not a completely damning list of problems for the SD800IS, but things you should be aware of. Things that are better to know up front before buying. Here’s just a few more problems to consider.

- no freedom to tinker with the exposure

- red eye artifacts appears quite frequently

- short battery life

- MPEG support for movies has been excluded

- luminance histogram is restricted to playback mode only

OK, so the Canon PowerShot SD8000IS Elph, has some issues. But is it enough to be a deal breaker? Well, that’s really up to you. Of course the best strategy is to go your favorite camera shop, and try one out. Shoot a bunch of pictures around the store (outside if they let you), and see how they look. Be sure to ask the salesman lots of questions about the problems above, and see what they have to say. There’s no substitute for a real life hands on camera trial.
